No No No!
This was one of the worst books I have ever read in my entire reading career. It had no plot whatsoever and very flimsy characters. It baffles me to think what this author had to do to get this book published....
San Francisco private schools same.
Private schools are the same (if not worse) in San Francisco, but people here tend to be too humorless to poke fun. A great read, reminds me of Kingsley Amis.
Don't waste your time on this.
Completely trite pablum. Not a single likeable character -- well, okay, maybe a couple, but certainly not any of the main characters. All the characters were incredibly one-dimensional, even the likeable ones. Don't waste your time on this one; there are so many more wonderful books out there with much more interesting and rich characters.
Fun read
I really enjoyed this book. I thought that it was very well-written; I lost myself in the story and felt a familiarity with each of the characters. A fun, quick read that will have you rooting for the main character who was likable, funny, and ... human. Great book. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
Interesting in fits and starts
While the controversies surrounding Trees continue, one thing is constant--the characters in this semi-interesting novel. They are all so stereotypical that everything is fairly predictable up to the end, where the author must have suspected as much and thus threw in a twist ending to give the reader some sort of surprise. While this account may try to describe life in an over-privileged, over-moneyed NYC high school, it tends to bog down in its own mire. While I did, admittedly, root for the protagonist, it was difficult at times just because he was written so dimwittedly. It's a quick read, and it can be interesting at times, but it's nothing to write home about.
